Dr. Miles Harrison - Founding member of Morgan State Lacrosse
Dr. Miles Harrison, a member of the board of directors of US Lacrosse, is a surgeon, community leader and extraordinary lacrosse advocate, who as a student helped create a Division I lacrosse program at a traditionally Black College, Morgan State University.
Dr. Miles Harrison was as one of the founding members of the Morgan State College lacrosse team of the 1970s, the first all-African American college lacrosse team. He co-authored, with Head Coach Chip Silverman, the widely acclaimed book, "Ten Bears," which recounts the story of the Morgan State College lacrosse team of the 1970s.
Harrison was one of 20 original players who, along with Silverman, formed the Morgan State College lacrosse team in 1970. In its first year in the NCAA, the team finished 8-4, and Harrison was selected to the North-South All-Star team. Between 1970 and 1975, the team ranked in the top ten in the country four out of the five years and twice appeared in the lacrosse championship tournament. Harrison graduated in 1971 and went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is now a surgeon at Sinai Hospital. Harrison's son, Kyle Harrison, was also a star lacrosse player in college as a member of the Johns Hopkins University 2005 NCAA Men's Championship Team.
